This PEACE HOSPICE donations site is dedicated to the memory of Derek Firmin aka Delboy

Delboy, was born in Enfield on August 07, 1947. He was a charismatic, popular and funny man, always loyal and loving.  You always knew when Derek was about as you could hear him laughing from miles away and no problem was ever to small for him to help others.

He was a loving father, husband, granddad to his 10 grandchildren and a friend to so many.  He is much loved and will always be remembered by all his friends and family.

Derek passed away on the 7th May 2015 from glioblastoma (the most aggressive form of brain cancer), after beating the prognosis by an amazing 5 months.  Not once did he complain during his illness - always putting other peoples needs before his own.

He died peacefully at home, surrounded by all his family - exactly as he wanted.

Peace Hospice, a local charity who rely heavily on public funding, provided so much support to Dad/Derek in the final weeks.  Everyone from the nurses, doctors, cleaners and to the amazing volunteers made dad's time at the Hospice a memorable one.  He stayed there for over a week when his symptoms unexpectedly deteriorated - whilst ensuring dad was comfortable and settled at Peace Hospice, the staff also helped to ensure his final wish of passing at home could be fulfilled. Dad was discharged from Peace Hospice on a Friday and he passed away just 6 days later, surrounded by all his loving family.  It was due to their quick action in ensuring that things were in place at home, that enabled him to be discharged in time to come home...the place he loved the most.  To show our appreciation Derek's family will be donating funds to the hospice and we'd love it if you could do the same instead of buying flowers.  No amount is too small and all donations are gratefully received .
